About Kendra Alston

Kendra Alston, an African-American author from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is deeply passionate about writing children’s books and sharing them with young audiences. Her inspiration stems from the joy her thirteen-year-old son, Karson, has brought her, coupled with over two decades of experience in the field of education.

Starting with a writing style that blends the whimsical humor of Dr. Seuss with the cultural depth reminiscent of Dr. Maya Angelou, Kendra weaves enchanting tales meant to be read aloud, believing strongly in the power of reading aloud to foster essential reading skills. Her stories blend fantasy, innocence, optimism, and instructiveness, presenting relatable themes through engaging language and rhythmic narratives. Kendra employs diverse language techniques, from grammatical structures to inferential and figurative language, along with age-appropriate vocabulary, to enrich the learning journey.

Kendra has not only published her debut book, “Karson Goes to Kindergarten,” but has successfully guided numerous other authors through the publishing process, leveraging her expertise in the field. With a prolific output, Kendra has published over 10 books, including “Slime-A-Rella” and “Slime-A-Rella’s Gift.” Several other captivating books are set to be released in the coming year, promising more delightful stories from Kendra.

Currently residing in Charlotte, North Carolina, Kendra shares her home with her son and their loyal dog, Sky.
