Kendra Alston is an African-American author from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Her passion is writing children’s books and reading them to children (and adults). This comes from the joy her 9 year old son has brought her, combined with a twenty plus year career as an educator. Kendra worked her way through the school system, teaching elementary grades to college reading courses. She spent the majority of her career as an instructional coach and New Teacher Coordinator.

She has expanded her reach and skill set by offering online training for a variety of careers with the formation of her company, Koppertree LLC; a staff development and training company specializing in online staff development and consultancy. Kendra holds numerous degrees in education and executive leadership.

She finds inspiration in creating rhyme and rhythm, using harmonious tones to craft fantastic tales that are meant to be read aloud. A career in education taught her that reading aloud is the single most effective way to develop fundamental reading skills. Kendra combines fantasy, innocence, optimism, and didacticism to provide relatable themes that are filled with engaging language and rhythm. She uses a variety of language techniques to enhance the learning experience, from grammatical structure to inferential and figurative language usage and academic appropriate vocabulary.
Her first book, Karson Goes to Kindergarten, was inspired by and written for her beloved son, Karson.

Kendra currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with her son and their dog, Blossom.
